Assalamu alaikum

O you who believe! Be careful of (your duty to) Allah and relinquish what remains (due) from usury, if you are believers.

But if you do (it) not, then be apprised of war from Allah and His Apostle; and if you repent, then you shall have your capital; neither shall you make (the debtor) suffer loss, nor shall you be made to suffer loss.

(Al Quran - 2:278,279)

Allah (SWT) and His Prophets have declared war against the people who indulge in Interest-based economic transactions. Isn’t the warning serious enough notice for us to take notice and understand what it really means?

The Riba based, ever expanding economic and monetary system is the leading cause of hunger, war, global warming, unequal distribution of wealth, leading to generalised unrest and break-down of mutual trust. In contrast, the Islamic economic system bases itself on Justice, Taqwa, Righteousness and Goodwill leading to real growth and happiness, equitable distribution of wealth resulting in mutual love and respect and eventual peace. While we live totally entrapped by this Dajjalian system, what options do we really have to save ourselves in this world and in the Hereafter? We need to understand the fundamentals of both and the consequences so that we can try and reconstruct a peaceful society for us and our future generations. Islamic Banking is a fashionably by-word today. Is it really Islamic? Is it the real solution?

In this edition of monthly professional meet, let us focus on this important aspect of life and come to terms with the dangers and the hopes for the future.
